Patricia Kay (Mcghee) Quimby

January 16, 1937 — November 9, 2024

Gallipolis

Patricia "Kay" Quimby, 87, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9, 2024. She was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on January 16, 1937, during the 1937 Flood, with the doctor going to her home by boat.

Growing up, Kay enjoyed riding bikes with her girlfriends, roller skating, and walking around downtown Gallipolis to see what was going on. She was a Daddy's girl, and liked to stop by his barbershop on 2nd Ave. After graduating from Gallia Academy High School, she worked as a medical secretary at Holzer Hospital on 1st Ave. She loved her job and kept medical books close by for the rest of her life.

When Kay was 20 years old, she lost her fiancé, Carter Smith, in a car crash and one week later, her father to a heart attack. A few years later, she married Ronald R. "Ronnie" Sims. Ronnie brought his son, Bobby, into the new family and two years later, Kay gave birth to twin girls, Ronda and Tammy.

In 1967, her husband died on the Silver Bridge when it fell, leaving Kay a widow. She later married Jack Quimby Sr. and together, they enjoyed 45 years of marriage.

Kay was a member of Central Christian Church. She struggled through many difficulties in her life and said that God's grace and power brought her through those times. She learned much through those hard times and appreciated her life; her favorite Bible scripture was Psalm 139, which helped her throughout all her days.

She is survived by her daughters, Ronda S. Sims Dixon and Tamara Sims Thacker; grandchildren: Ryann Thacker Swindler, Kristin Clark Stinson and Kelly Thacker Baker; great-grandchildren: Daniel Stinson, Lily Baker, Callen Swindler and Harrison Baker.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Irene McGhee; husbands, Ronald R. Sims and Jack Quimby; two great-grandchildren; stepson, Robert L. Sims; sister, Barbara Clark; fiancé, Carter Smith and son-in-law, John Martin Dixon III.

Kay's family would like to thank Tina and Pat for their compassion and care. Thank you to Holzer Sycamore Clinic for their expertise and kindness over the years and Heartland Hospice for their guidance and commitment. A special Thank you to Kim, Amanda and Delilah for such dedicated service and loving care.
