Roy Burger, 89, Bidwell, Ohio went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 15, 2003 in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. He was born December 30, 1913 at Milton, West Virginia, son of the late Peter and Annie Smith Burger. He married Mary Fern Rife August 10, 1941 in Bidwell, Ohio and she preceded him March 7, 1990. He retired from the Gallipolis State Institute where he worked as an attendant. He attended the Vinton Baptist Church; was a WWII Army-Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion post #161, Vinton.
He is survived by four daughters: Carole (Ray) Kemper, Mount Sterling, Ohio; Linda (Roger) Deel, Vinton, Ohio; Joyce (Ron) Twyman, Vinton, Ohio and Patricia (Patrick) Stout, Bidwell, Ohio; one son: Kris (Amy) Burger, Bidwell, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Kim (Wendall) Harris, Mount Sterling, Ohio; Rocky (Kelly) Kemper, Orient, Ohio; Gregg Deel, Vinton, Ohio; Todd (Tracy) Deel, Thurman, Ohio; Brandon (Trenia) Twyman, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dama (Brent) Schultz, Vinton, Ohio; Brian (Liz) Stout, Bidwell, Ohio; Jason Stout, U.S. Air Force based in Qatar; Derek and Ryan Burger, Bidwell, Ohio; thirteen great-grandchildren also survive along with four brothers and two sisters: Robert (Louise) Burger, Gallipolis, Ohio; Paul (Phyllis) Burger, Milton, West Virginia; Homer (Marietta) Burger, Columbus, Ohio; Joseph Hal Burger, Gallipolis, Ohio; Irene Hager, Pleasantville, Ohio and Marie Sheets, Lancaster, Ohio; several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Burger; grandson, Rodney Twyman; three brothers: Everett, Luther and Lonnie Burger; sister, Darlene Burger Eads; half-brother, Albert Burger and two half-sisters, Emma Janey and Pansy Rodgers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in the Vinton Baptist Church, Vinton with Rev. Marvin Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veteran Service Organizations. Roy's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
