While in Cincinnati, she met her husband, Frederick Lee Shockley, and they married on July 2, 1943. She later attended the University of Cincinnati and completed studies to become a teacher. Mrs. Shockley was a very devoted Christian and supported her husband's ministry for over 60 years. She was an ordained deaconess in the Wesleyan Conference of Ohio. There were many interests in her life including serving as a volunteer at Holzer Medical Center, southern gospel music, reading, eating chocolate candy, and spending time with her family. She "adopted" animals that came to the farm as strays and had a special admiration for a dog named Tippy.
