Sarah Holcomb, 77, Alice, passed away Monday January 24, 2005 at Holzer Medical Center. At home, she was noted for her homemade bread and known for her self-sacrifice and ability to provide for her family when the odds were against her. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidering, and playing the piano and guitar. For many years, Sarah took care of others in her role as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Vinton.

She was born July 17, 1927 at Cutler, Washington County, Ohio, daughter of the late John Jarvis and Lydia Jane Norris Jarvis. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters.

Sarah is survived by eight children: Paul B. (Karen) Holcomb, Taylor, Michigan; Marion E. Holcomb, Vinton, Ohio; John F. Holcomb, Alice; Donald R. (Henrietta) Holcomb, Alice; Karen K. Beaseley, Cardington; Penny L. (Ray) Hamlin, Marengo; Gregory D. (Kathy) Holcomb, Vinton and Tammi J. (Frank) Crowell, Thornville; twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was known as "Aunt Darb."

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 27, 2005 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. Denver McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Liberty Cemetery in Washington County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday.
