Vaughn French

Vaughn J. French, 80, Addison Community passed away unexpectedly Tuesday,October 29, 2002 in Holzer Medical Center. He was born September 12, 1922 in Addison Township, son of the late Oscar Eugene and Nellie Belle Smith French. Vaughn married Dorothy Hansher March 13, 1942 at Marysville, Ohio and she preceded him in death August 16, 1996. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp serving during WWII.
Vaughn was a retired employee of Gallipolis Developmental Center where he worked as a lab technician for thirty years and a member of Cheshire F&AM Lodge, Siloam #456; Thirty-second Degree Mason, Vally of Columbus Scottish Rite, Gallipolis Shrine; Hillbilly Clan #7, Gallipolis; Kentucky Colonel; Republican Party Central Committee Person; Southern A's Model A Car Club, Gallipolis and a singer in the French Quartet. He was an active member of his community, serving as Addison Township Trustee and a loving neighbor to the Amish Community of Gallia County. He also volunteered as a Shrine Clown for various events.
He is survived by one son, Vaughn L. (Kathy) French, Gallipolis, Ohio and one daughter, Carlene Crace, Addison, Ohio; four grandsons: Lt. Christopher (Andrea) Crace, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Shawn Louis French; Jason Holcomb, Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Mark (Andgie) Burns, Gallipolis; two great-grandchildren and special friends Jim Crace Jr., Robert E. Eastman, David McQuaid and Bob Evans.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday November 1, 2002 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Rev. Marvin Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in the Campaign Cemetery near Addison. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. Masonic services will be conducted Thursday at 8:45 PM by the Cheshire F&AM Siloam #456. Full Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organization.
