Wayne D. Palmer, 83, Cheshire, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2002 in the Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. He was born January 17, 1919 in Eno, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Minnie R. Darst Palmer. He was a self-employed dairy farmer and had also served as a bus driver for the Gallia County School System for 29 years before his retirement in 1984. He was a World War II Army Veteran, and a member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church.
Wayne married his wife of 59 years, Lucille Denney, on September 3, 1943 in Bidwell, and she survives with three sons and daughters-in-law: Gary (Marie) Palmer, Danny (Shirley) Palmer and David (Connie) Palmer, all of Cheshire; one daughter, Kay (Marc) Hardway, Cheshire; seven grandchildren: Christi Palmer, Lora Jones, Michelle Darst, Amy Robie, Christopher Palmer, Brittany Hardway and Dayton Hardway; three great-grandchildren, Bryeton Robie, Dylan Darst, and Ethan Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Donald, and a twin brother, Wade Palmer; and three sisters, Marie Thomas, Jessie Brothers and Ruth Gabriel.
Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2002 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, with the Rev. Paul Stinson and the Rev. Mary Cyrus officiating. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, December 3, 2002. The American Flag will be folded and presented at the graveside by the Gallia County Veterans organizations.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Robie, Kevin Deemer, Keith Darst, Stanley Jones III, Dana Green and Tim Green.
