William Akers

June 8, 1931 — February 23, 2012

William "Bill" Akers, 80, Bidwell, Ohio, an avid hunter and fisherman, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. He retired from Kardon Industries of St. Paris, Ohio where he was a manufacturing supervisor and had previously been employed by the Container Corporation of Piqua and the Piqua Public School. He was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church and had formerly served as Trustee of Calvary Baptist Church, Rio Grande.

Bill was born on June 8, 1931, in Tazwell, Virginia, son of the late Edgar and Cynthia Stevens Akers. Surviving is his wife of more than forty years, Doris Anderson Akers; stepson, Michael (Wanda) Putnam, Minster, Ohio and two grandchildren: Brian Putnam and Kim (Jon) Stevens, both of Piqua, Ohio and two great-grandsons, Anthony and Landin Putnam.

Also surviving is his brother, Albert (Carol) Akers, Lynchburg, Virginia; sisters: Nancy (Ed) Altizer, Patsy (Sam) Daniels, Edith (Tom) Jackson, Judy (Jim) Congrove and Linda Akers, all of Tazwell, Virginia; Betty (Alan) Griffith, Princeton, West Virginia and Chris (J.E.) King, Abingdon, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Sue Shutt.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 25,2012 in the Vinton Baptist Church, 11818 SR 160, Vinton with Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the church Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2012 in the Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio.
