William H. "Bill" Phillips

William H. "Bill" Phillips, 78, Bidwell, Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. He was born November 30, 1931 at Porter, son of the late Paul and Dorothy Smith Phillips. He was a US Navy Veteran during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Vinton American Legion Post 161.

Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Sopha G. Stout Phillips. Together they owned and operated Cottrell's Grocery at Porter for twenty-three years. Previously, he had been employed by the Valley Bell Company and Evans Grocery. He loved his family and was always available to happily serve his community, both as a merchant and a friend.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two sons: William W. "Billy" (Monna) Phillips and Charles F. "Chuck" (Carol) Phillips, both of Porter, Ohio; grandchildren, Allen (Jessica) Phillips, Chuckie (Christine) Phillips, Lindsay (Danny) Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Kimberly Taylor.
Also surviving are brother, Gerald (Janet) Phillips, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Phillips and brother, Robert Phillips Sr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Rev. Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday 11:00-2:00 PM.
