William G. "Bill" Quickle, 85, Vinton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Holzer Medical Center. Bill was born May 2, 1925 in Vinton, son the late G.V. "Cook" and Ruth Dorthey Warren Quickle, Vinton.
He was a 1943 graduate of Vinton High School and a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, having served at the Battle of Okinawa and later sent to Korea. Bill married the love of his life, Virginia R. Fullen June 8, 1947 in Gallipolis, Ohio. They decided to build their own house on State Route 160, where they resided together for 63 years. In 1954 they received, what Bill always said was his greatest gift, their daughter Sheri Lynette Quickle. She blessed them with two grandsons; William Kevin (Cerissa) Wray and Brian E. Angell. Bill worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a lineman, later in the test center, and finally as plant manager for the Gallipolis office before retiring in 1983. Bill enjoyed boating, vacationing at the ocean, wood working and later in life, "football season".
In addition to his wife, daughter and grandsons, Bill is survived by sisters in-law, Donna Fullen, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her children RaNae, Lisa, and Mike Callahan; Trudi Fullen, Cincinnati, Ohio, and her children, Shannon, Sean, Heather, Michael and Kirsten Fullen; cousins, June (Tom) Davis and Polly Wetherholt, a very special family friend, Mary Lanier.
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dr. William "Sonny" Fullen, mother-in-law, Ethel C. Fullen, and a nephew, James Callahan.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton. Burial will follow at Vinton Memorial Park where full military rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 22, 6:00-8:00 PM.
