William M. "Bill" Rece

William M. "Bill" Rece, 86, passed away Monday February 8, 2010 at 10:00 AM, MT in the V.A. Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. The oldest of six children, he was born on August 19, 1923 to the late Harvey and Kathryn Rece in Harveytown, West Virginia.

Bill married Lillian Myers February 3, 1944 who survives with one daughter, Renae (Rece) Comer, Grand Junction, Colorado; a grandson, Timothy Craig Bickers, Hytop, Alabama; and three great-grandsons: Dustin, Dylan and Chase Bickers. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother: Verta (James) Casto, Vinton, Ohio, Mary Myers, Delaware, Ohio, and James Rece, Gallipolis, Ohio.

A son, Philip Lee Rece, preceded Bill in death at the age of 10 years in 1955. In addition he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Thomas Rece.

Bill served in the US Navy from 1943-1946. He worked for the Ohio State Highway Department and the Gallia County Highway Department before retiring. He was member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Vinton Lodge No. 0131 and The American Legion of Ohio Post 0161. Bill and Lillian lived most of their life in Vinton, before they moved to Lewisburg, Kentucky in 1999 and recently to Grand Junction, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2010 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with Mark Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 4:00-7:00 PM. Masonic Services will be held on Friday at 7:00 PM by the Vinton Masonic Lodge 131.
