William H. Hatten, 91, Bidwell, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012, at his residence. He was born October 8, 1920 in Kenova, West Virginia to the late Harry Lee and Tilda (Osburn) Hatten. He was a Private in the U.S. Army, and a member of Vermillion F & AM Lodge. He was also a member of Good News Baptist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio.
William is survived by his wife of 69 years, Garnet E. Hatten, whom he married May 20, 1942; daughter, Joyce Allen, Bidwell; sons, William "Buzz" (Audry) Hatten, Bidwell and Robert "Red" (Gayle) Hatten, Wellington, Ohio; brothers, Harry Hatten, Hartford, Alabama and Lory Hatten, Kenova, West Virginia; sisters, Roma Gayle (J.J) Billups, Ceredo, West Virginia, Joann Hunt, Wakeman, Ohio and Floetta (Darrell) Hall, Kenova, West Virginia; six grandchildren: Brian (Michele) Allen, Sean (Karen) Allen, Hope (Kevin) Hatten-Young, Heather Hatten, Robert Hatten Jr. and William Joseph "B.J." Hatten; four great grandchildren: Kayla Allen, Dallas Allen, Madeline Young and Charlie Snezek; and sister-in-law, Edna "Peg" Hatten, Amherst, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Brother Jim Hatten and Granddaughter Charity Faith Hatten.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2012 in the Good News Baptist Church, Gallipolis, with Pastor Joe Godwin, officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Friends and family may call at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, is honored to handle the arrangements for Mr. Hatten.
