William Leon Thornton

William Leon "Bill" Thornton, 85, Langsville, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Charleston Area Medical Center, West Virginia. He was born February 8, 1930, in Elmore County, Alabama, the son of the late Jessie James and Viola Gertrude Duck Thornton. Bill was a retired veteran serving twenty-two years in the United States Army, a retired bus driver for Meigs County Local Schools with twenty plus years of service and attended Danville Holiness Church, Danville, Ohio. Bill leaves behind his wife Minnie White Thornton who he married on June 28, 1957.
Bill is also survived by five children, Donna (Danny) Fink, Charleston, West Virginia, Diana (Roger) Arthur, Bidwell, Ohio, Darlene (Wayne) Mills, Gallipolis, Ohio, David (Hollee) Thornton, Luzerne, Switzerland, Dennis (Lisa) Thornton, Greenup, Kentucky; 20 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Thornton, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the Danville Holiness Church, Danville, Ohio with Pastor Brian Bailey officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service beginning at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery with Graveside Military Service conducted by Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, on Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M.
