William Thomas Washam V, M.D., J.D., 89, Vinton, Ohio, passed away January 10, 2012. Tom was born January 25, 1922 in Jackson, Ohio to the late William Thomas and Sarah Bernice (Evans) Washam, IV. He graduated from Jackson High School, where he later became President of the school board and a member of the district's Hall of Fame. After high school, Tom received a B.S. (1942) and M.D. (1945) from The Ohio State University, and he also served in the U.S. Navy. He earned a J.D. (1965) from Franklin University and was one of the first doctor/lawyers in the country.

Tom's fondest memories were from his years as a family physician; however, he contributed to many professional fields during his 50 years of work and was known for his innovative thinking and problem solving. Tom practiced family, emergency and industrial medicine, and briefly practiced law. He was an adjunct professor at both the OSU College of Medicine and Capital University School of Law. Tom also worked as a health care and nuclear energy health consultant, and served as Executive Secretary of the State Medical Board in Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Patricia Stowers Washam, Vinton and daughters, Susan Witten, Columbus, Ohio and Sara Anne (Robert) Cody, Portland, Maine; son, Thomas William Washam, College Station, Texas; grandsons, Joshua (Jennifer) Witten, Cambridge, England and Benjamin Witten, Portland, Oregon; special sister-in-law, Jane (Vernon) Craddock, Barboursville, West Virginia; niece, Jan (Rick) Smith, Jackson; nephews, Kent Washam, Jackson and Ken Moffett, Knoxville, Tennessee; and friends, Benna Grube and Elaine Weaver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Daniel Evans Washam, and son, William Thomas Washam VI.

At Tom's request, there will be no funeral services.
