Charles L. “Chuck” Thaxton, 84, Bidwell, Ohio went to meet his heavenly father Monday, January 4, 2021. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia January 19, 1936 to the late Cressel Blankenship Duty. Charles married Leora Smith in Porter, Ohio July 25, 1959 and she survives. He retired from Shell Chemical Company, Apple Grove, West Virginia following 32 years of employment. A Veteran of the United States Navy, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Rodney, Ohio where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He loved the Cleveland Browns and was happy to see them make the playoffs.
Those left to cherish his memory with his wife Leora are their children: Tamie (Gene) Welch, Oak Hill, Ohio; Margie (Jamie) Prosser, Aynor, South Carolina; Nikki (Ray) Perry, Pickerington, Ohio and Steve (Angie) Thaxton, Vinton, Ohio; grandchildren: Ben (Natalie) Welch, Amber Fenwick, Lindsey (Shaun) Northup, Dustin (Kaila) Thaxton, Cole Thaxton, Kayla and Emma Perry, Hannah (Daniel) Evory, Ian (Ali) Prosser and Callie Prosser; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and extended family members.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by stepfather, Ed Duty.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Faith Baptist Church, Rodney, Ohio with Reverend Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow at Vinton Memorial Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio where Full Military Honors will be conducted by Vinton American Legion Post #161. Family and friends may call at the church from 12:00 PM to the time of service. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, is honored to serve the Thaxton Family.
