Charles Michael “Mike” Polsley, 76, Gum Spring, Virginia passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born September 24, 1947 in Ewington, Ohio, son of the late Fred and Ernestine (Casey) Polsley. Mike joined the Army in 1966, serving in the Vietnam Conflict with the 240th Assault Helicopter Company, known as the “Mad Dogs”, as a door gunner from 1968 to 1969.
He was employed by CSX Transportation for forty-three years before his retirement in 2007. His memberships include Powhatan Moose Lodge #1840, Old Dominion Moose Legion #148 and American Legion Post #161, Vinton, Ohio. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and motorcyclist, yet he loved being a “Pop Pop” most.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are daughter, Amanda (Jerry) Robinson, grandson, Jared Robinson, brother, Christopher (Rebecca) Polsley, aunt, Georgine Maynard and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He will be deeply missed by lifelong friend, Terry (Teresa) Harder, close friends Jim Haney, Robert Taylor, Mary Polsley Williams and loving nurses Diane Welch and Nee Nee Harvey.
Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 18, 2023 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel. Full Military Graveside Rites will be performed by the Vinton American Legion Post #161 in the Vinton Memorial Park immediately following the service. A Gathering of Friends will be held Saturday 11:00 AM until the service hour at the funeral home.
