Danna Bickle Obituary

Danna Ray Bickle, 80 of Rio Grande, Ohio went home to be with His Heavenly Father after several months of declining health Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. Danna passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Holzer Medical Center Gallipolis, Ohio.

Danna was born July 18th, 1941 to the late Harlon Curry and Marjorie Faye (Gregory) Bickle in Maitland, Florida. The Lord blessed him with 80 wonderful years. Danna was a loving and faithful husband and father.

If you asked Danna his greatest accomplishment in life, he would quickly tell you it was being a father to his four children Chris, Beth, Greg and Lisa. They would tell you he was the strongest man they ever knew, and his work ethic and humble personality resonates in each of them today. He was a kind father but stern and highly respected for his values and lifelong lessons. He loved the Lord and was looking forward to his heavenly home.

Danna retired from a lifelong career as a truck driver in 2017. Throughout his life, one of his greatest loves was spending time remodeling cars and trucks. His children, family and friends always enjoyed hearing all his stories of days past. He will forever be remembered for the “little red truck” he restored and drove through his hometown of Rio Grande, Ohio.

In 1970 Danna met Phyllis Rae Campbell. In his words, he fell in love with her gentle caring spirit, loving heart and beauty instantaneously. They were married in November of 1971, and together they built their life together and raised four confident and strong children. They were married 48 years when Danna held her hand as she went to be with the Lord. Recently, when reciting “in the morning when I rise, give me Jesus” his voice trembled, and the tears flowed as he knew that Jesus was calling him home to his family and his loving wife.

Left with decades of fond memories are Danna’s four children: Chris (Rebecca) Bickle, Proctorville, Ohio; Beth Taylor, Inverness, Florida; Greg (Lisa) Bickle-Tagg, Vinton, Ohio and Lisa Lee of Rio Grande, Ohio.

He relished in his role as grandpa to Michael Todd (Brittany) Bickle, Rio Grande, Ohio; Kayla Phillips, Elkview, West Virginia; Brad (Erin) Taylor, Leon, West Virginia; David Taylor, Pomeroy, Ohio; Devin Walker Lee and Gracie Lee, Rio Grande, Ohio; Christopher J. Tagg, Gallipolis, Ohio; Hannah Tagg and Chloe Tagg, Vinton, Ohio.  Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren: Kylie, Colton, Cassidee, Landen, Briar, Kade, Makenzie, Bryce, Christopher, Connor, Aiden, and Faris.

In addition, two loving sisters-in-law, Betty Campbell, Gallipolis, Ohio and Jennifer Campbell, Vinton, Ohio; brother-in-law, Joe Justice, Bidwell, Ohio; two special “kids”, as he called them, that he loved as his own grandchildren, Tre and Ali French of Rio Grande, Ohio; dearest friends Bill Thorton, Florida and Ray and Luanna Moore, Vinton, Ohio; three wonderful boys, Briar, Brody, and Beau Wells, Rio Grande, Ohio, who brought light and happiness to him every time they visited; the “girls”, as he called them, nieces Valerie Nelson, Vicky Brown-Denney and Pam Shockey and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Danna was preceded in death by his grandson, Danna Lee Bickle and brother, Jim Bickle.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Vinton Memorial Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio with Mark Jackson officiating. Family and friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio Friday 4:00-6:00 PM.
