Don E. Call, 76, Rio Grande, died in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia Thursday, February 4, 2021. Don was born February 5, 1944 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Lincoln Everett and Mary (nee Baker) Call. He married Peggy L. (nee Large) Call who preceded him in death November 6, 2018.
A retired ironworker, Don worked in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia for nearly forty years. He built many of the high-rise projects in Columbus, Ohio. In 1972, he miraculously survived a structural failure at General James M. Gavin Power Plant. After making a full recovery, he taught welding at Buckeye Hills Career Center for several years and returned to ironworking until his retirement. Don served on the Rio Grande Village Council and faithfully attended his church.
He is survived by his children: Jeff (Jennifer) Call, Wilmington, North Carolina; Jerry (Yuko) Call, Cheney, Washington and Jason W. Call, Rio Grande; grandchildren: Megumi Call, Cheney, Washington and Katie Call, Wilmington, North Carolina along with several cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 in the Vinton Memorial Park.
