Gary Pope Obituary

Gary Allen Pope, 68, Vinton, Ohio lost his battle against cancer Wednesday, September 2, 2020. He was born April 5, 1952 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Lonnie Edgar and Marguerite Frances (Spencer) Pope. Gary attended North Gallia High School and Gallipolis Business College. He was a United States Army Veteran serving 1970-1974. Gary retired from IBEW Local 575 in Portsmouth, Ohio. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

He married Letha Pearl Stollings October 1976 and together they have three children who are left to cherish his memory: Karena (Dave) Patterson, Allen (Sara) Pope and Sarah (Kyle) Johnson; six grandchildren: Matthew Mollohan, Jaden Pope, Carson Patterson, Raylan Patterson, Elliot Pope and Oliver Johnson. Also surviving are brothers: Jarrell Derwood (Lois) Pope, Michael (Laurie) Pope and Dennis Patrick Pope; sisters: Bobby Ogawa, Jeanette Campbell, Lisa Jean Nolan and Lorrie Nolan; sister-in-law, Trinna Pope and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Laney Pope, Audrey Joann Haskins, George Pope, Kimberly Holler and Jeffrey Pope.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Full Military Rites will be provided by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service time of 12:00 Noon. CDC Guidelines of COVID-19 recommendations requiring social distancing will be in effect and facial coverings must be worn.
