James Ballard Browning, 65, of Dayton, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July, 25 2023. James was a retired restaurant manager who lived most of his life in Gallia County, Ohio and Montgomery, Alabama. James was known for his infectious smile, his deep southern accent, and his big hugs. His siblings often entertained themselves by telling stories of his ornery antics as a young man.
James was born on January 16, 1958 in Gilbert, West Virginia, the sixth child of Roscoe and Irene (Varney) Browning. James is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Jay) Parham and Jamie (Matthew) Renfroe, as well as his sons, Jeremy Browning and Matthew Browning. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Graydon, Grier, and Gaines Renfroe and a step-grandson Thomas Parham. Surviving siblings include a sister, Arlene Holley, four brothers, Donald (Janet) Browning, David (Diann) Browning, Bert (Judy) Browning, and Tom (Casey) Scroggins, a stepsister, Gail (Reuben) Squire, and a stepbrother, Dwight (Judy) Scroggins, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the mothers of his children, Karen Browning and Linda Browning.
Preceding James in death are his mother, Irene Browning-Scroggins, his father, Roscoe Browning, Sr., a brother, Roscoe Browning, Jr., a brother-in-law, David Holley, maternal grandparents, Mary and Homer Varney, paternal grandparents, Tony and Hazel Browning, stepfather, John Scroggins, and a stepbrother, Derwin Scroggins.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Campaign Cemetery in Addison Township, Gallipolis, Ohio. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, is honored to serve the Browning Family.
