Jay Crisenbery Obituary

Jay Robert Crisenbery, 68 of Crown City, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with illness Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Born February 1, 1954 in Elida, Ohio, Jay was the son of the late Lowell Eugene Crisenbery and Marian Stemen Crisenbery.  Jay married the love of his life, Donna Jean (Swartzentruber) Crisenbery, February 3, 1973 in Daviess County, Indiana and she survives. He is also survived by his three children: Leslie (Mike) Dennison, Bobby (Leann) Crisenbery and Amy (Cory) Harrison, all of Gallipolis, Ohio; eleven grandchildren: Russell (Samie) Dennison, Madelynn (Jeremy) Wilson, Kelsey (Julian Silvey) Crisenbery, Brooke (Jacob) Taylor, Kaleb Crisenbery, Ethan (Brittney) Rider, Christopher Dennison, Tristin Crisenbery, Paige Harrison, Heidi Harrison and Kaylie Crisenbery;  six great-grandchildren: Kyrie, Oliver, Julz, Ari, Wesley, and Dani Claire and siblings: Lee (Miriam) Crisenbery, Connie (Phil) Bear, Darlene Sandlin, Lyndell (Louann) Crisenbery and Linda (Brian) Powell.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Doug Sandlin.

Jay was a member of Fellowship of Faith Church in Rio Grande, Ohio, where he enjoyed serving as security detail with his good friend Daniel Riffle, who also preceded him in death. Jay loved the Lord, his family and his community.

Jay started his career as a journeyman electrician working for Kramer Electric in Washington, Indiana.  In 1981, Jay and his wife, Donna, decided to relocate to Ohio to raise their three children on a farm. There he managed Butler Hereford Farm for 23 years.  He and his family loved their years on the farm and memories made there. Jay taught them many wonderful life lessons on that farm including his strong work ethic, rivaled by few.  During the years on the farm, Jay hosted a special hunt for disabled hunters through Buckmasters, of which he was a member, to help these hunters enjoy the sport as much as he did.

In 2004, Jay and Donna left farm life to start their own electrical company, Crisenbery Electric, Inc. They started small, just the two of them working side by side while he worked to obtain his Master Electrician License. He quickly grew it into a successful business providing employment for multiple families and creating a legacy for his own family as well.  He was very proud to have his son, sons-in-law and grandsons joining the business over the years.  He loved blessing others with what he was given and frequently would tell many customers that he knew were having a struggle that they didn’t need to worry about their bill and to “just have a Merry Christmas”.  He would do anything to help someone in need.

Jay was very involved in his community.  During the farming years he and Donna were advisors for their 4-H club, the Riverside Rangers. He continued his love and support of 4-H over the years as a livestock buyer at the Gallia County Junior Fair. He was also honored to be the Fair’s electrician. Throughout the years, he was a member of the Gallia County Soil and Water Board, served on the Buckeye Hills Community Center Advisory Board, served as a Clay Township Trustee, was a member of the Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107, Gallipolis F&AM Morning Dawn Lodge #7, Gallia County Gun Club and Gallia County Conservation Club.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman and loved all things hunting and fishing.  He and Donna loved hunting together and competing with each other in a fun-loving way on who was going to have the biggest buck on the wall each year. He loved sharing the sport with his children and grandchildren as well.

It was obvious to all how much he loved and adored his Donna and his face lit up whenever she and his family were around. There are not adequate words to describe just how much he loved his whole family and how much they loved him. They will do their best to honor his memory and make him proud in actions, words and deeds.

Jay had the best sense of humor and liked to tease anyone getting ready to leave by saying “Always remember and never forget…wherever you go… that’s where you’re at”. Well…those that knew him best know exactly “where he went and where he’s at” and that is home to the loving arms of his heavenly Father.
