Ludena Ellis Stollings, 89, Vinton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Arbors of Gallipolis Nursing Home. She was born January 5, 1934 to the late Vandelin and Edna Pearl (Bias) Ellis in Boone County, West Virginia. Ludena married Carl Leon Stollings October 20, 1951 and he preceded her in death December 24, 2006. She was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, served as mayor of Vinton, Ohio from 1971 to 1975, was previously employed by Gallipolis Daily Tribune, Gallipolis State Institute and retired from Gallia County Job and Family Services. Ludena attended Fellowship Chapel Church, was a member of Vinton American Legion Post 161, Ladies Auxiliary and Vinton OES Chapter 375.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Letha Pope, Vinton, Ohio; grandchildren: Karena (David) Patterson, Vinton, Ohio; Allen (Sara) Pope, Beaver, Ohio; Sarah (Kyle) Johnson, Gallipolis, Ohio; Joshua (Lisa) Stollings, Ray, Ohio and Jessica (Roland) Spradlin, Patriot, Ohio; fifteen great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Ellis, Bidwell, Ohio.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by son, Carl David Stollings; son-in-law, Gary Allen Pope; sisters: Ermma Dolin, Doris Tackett, Stella Guy, Barbara Ellis, Nellie Powell and two infant sisters; brothers: Virgil Ellis, Carl Ellis and Charles Ellis.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2023 at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Jamie Gruber officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to the time of service.
