Omer Kelly Phillips, “Kelly”, 93, Carroll, Ohio passed away in Englewood, Florida Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Kelly was born July 11, 1926 in Raleigh County, West Virginia, son of the late Oscar Kimble and Edith Irene (Perigen) Phillips. A WWII Army Veteran, he worked on the railroad in Denver, Colorado and as a machinist for many years before retiring as a truck driver working for 30 years. He married Nancy Carol Chowning Phillips November 26, 1948 in Rio Grande, Ohio and together they shared 65 years of marriage before her passing March 31, 2014.
To this union are their children left behind to cherish his memory: Ronald Phillips, Vinton, Ohio; Patricia (Chip) Carothers, Carroll, Ohio; Marilyn (John) Midkiff, Oak Hill, Ohio and Kenneth Phillips, Texas; grandchildren: John Hill, Jackie Hill, George Sturgill, Ron Phillips, Jr., Shirley Phillips, Adam Lanier, Tina Midkiff, Crystal Glenn and nineteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Kelly was preceded in death by daughter, Jeanne Carol Barron.
Kelly, also known as “O.K.”, was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as a good friend to many. He will be missed.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and recommendation of the CDC Guidelines, Private Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 2, 2020 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park. Funeral services may be viewed via Facebook Live on the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 12:00 PM.
