Rev. Calvin Minnis Obituary

Rev. Calvin Leon Minnis, 86, Bidwell, Ohio was called to his heavenly home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Risen Christ, Friday, September 23, 2022 in Rhodes Hall at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Rev. Minnis was born to the late Wyman and Mabel Minnis and was the last surviving child of this union. He was predeceased by sisters Augusta Jackson and Faye Diggs; brothers, Clyde, Bill and Buford Minnis and his son, Rayford Minnis.

He is survived by one son, his namesake, Calvin Minnis, Jr. and grandchildren, Brittani Minnis and Tarra (Timothy) Wolfe; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones as well as a loving church family. Special friends surviving include Rev. Clyde Ferrell and his very dear friend in Texas known as "Preston", who called Rev. Minnis almost everyday.

Rev. Minnis married Maudine Polly Morrison Minnis May 22, 1971, and they shared 53 blessed years. Maudine preceded him in death a little less than three months ago. They shared almost every waking moment together, even in employment - both retired from Gallipolis Developmental Center after 25 or more years of service.

He was known thought Southeastern Ohio, not only Gallia County, for his outstanding preaching style, beautiful singing voice and always present sense of humor. No matter the subject of conversation, he would work a "tall tale", a gospel song and the salvation message that Jesus Christ offered to everyone, into almost every word he said. He was notoriously known for that on the job, in the community, while driving the senior citizens van, sitting behind a desk in his office and even in the hospital...he was our local "Jerry Clower" comedian. No doubt about it, he could make a living professionally as a comedian. He even had a special part in the annual Providence Association Banquet called "Thou Shalt Laugh". That is where he honed his skills in telling "tall tales, jokes and other non-truths".

Rev. Minnis loved the Lord and he did not hesitate to share his love with anyone he came in contact with. He served as Pastor to the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Centerpoint for the last 43 years and was still actively pastoring when he was involved in the tragic car accident. He loved Corinth Church, its members and that community with his whole heart. He also served as Pastor at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Middleport, Ohio for a few years. Additionally, he was President of the Minister's and Deacons Institute of the Providence Association for several years.

Certainly, Rev. Minnis was a man of God. He will surely be missed by all who knew him as will his wife and soulmate, Maudine. They both gone up to bright glory, and we know his is happily singing up there.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, September 30, 2022 in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Bidwell, Ohio with Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Bethel Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church Friday 11:00 AM to the service time. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, is honored to serve the Minnis Family.
