Rex E. “Stubby” Shenefield, 93, Langsville, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home. He was born November 4, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Carl and Clara (nee Folden) Shenefield. Rex graduated as part of a class of eight at Columbia High School, Albany, Ohio. He began his career at Tate Cline, McArthur, Ohio later working for Edwin H. Davis & Son, Langsville, Ohio as a salesman of school bus bodies for over fifty years. He was also a self-employed farmer for more than seventy-two years in Salem Township, Meigs County, Ohio.
Rex was a continually active member of his community throughout his life. His memberships include Orphan’s Friend F&AM Lodge #275, of which he was a sixty-five year member; Gallipolis Shrine Club; Scottish Rite Valley of Gallipolis; Ohio Valley Commandery Knights Templer; Grand Council Royal & Selected Masons; Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Wilkesville Eastern Star #207; Kentucky Colonel; Salem Center United Methodist Church; Star Grange; Founding committee of the Wilkesville Community Building; Meigs County Farm Bureau Board; Soil & Water Conservation Board and Recipient of the Inaugural Lifetime Cooperator District Award; Meigs County Fair Board; former Veterans Memorial Hospital Board and Holzer Hospital Board.
He married Catherine (nee Colwell) Shenefield July 18, 1948 in Vinton, Ohio, who he was married to for seventy-two years and she survives with their children: Carl “Root” (Lue) Shenefield and Linda (Roy) Vaughan, all of Langsville, Ohio; grandchildren: Laurie (Rolando) Esparza, Albany, Ohio; Denise (Kevin) Hill, Langsville, Ohio; Crystal (Jason) Hull, Richmond, Kentucky and Bridget (Bradley) Wright, Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Ryan (Samantha Haning) Esparza, Lydia and Ethan Grimm, Makenna, Riley and Emma Hull and Alexander Wright as well as special nephew, Brad Emmons and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Rex taught his family the value of hard work by helping those in need, serving your community and to always preserve and care for the land God has given us. He had a distinct laugh that made it possible to find him in any crowd. He was a stranger to no one and loved to strike up conversation with anyone while sharing a piece of pie. Rex will be missed dearly by his many friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Shenefield.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 16, 2021 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Ann Forbes officiating. Burial will follow in the Standish Cemetery, Langsville, Ohio. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, May 15 at 2:00-5:00 PM and one hour prior to services Sunday. Masonic services will be conducted 5:00 PM Saturday by the Orphan’s Friend F&AM Lodge #275.
