Virginia “Ginny” Ann Huffman Showalter passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022, in her home, surrounded by family. Ginny was born January 30, 1935, at her grandparents’ farm in Morgan County, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Virgene Huffman. Ginny graduated from Athens High School and completed her college education at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio and the University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande, Ohio.
Her professional career began as a Reading teacher in the New Richmond School District in New Richmond, Ohio. She retired from teaching kindergarten after 20 plus years of dedication to the Lebanon City Schools in Lebanon, Ohio. Ginny was a devoted member of the Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church in Rio Grande, a member of the Garden Club, Mended Hearts Cincinnati & Gallipolis Ohio, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a follower of Jesus and content in her faith as a Christian as well as beautiful guide and mentor to all her family.
Ginny will be missed dearly by her two eldest daughters, Debbie Lynn Showalter and Diane L. Neff Clark; her sister, Mary Ellen Goldsberry; her grandchildren, Andrea R. Flynn, Lindsey (Jason) Mann, Heather M. Clark, Jessica M. Neff, Kati (James) Loy, Stephen G. Neff and Noah (Julie) Clark; great-grandchildren, Hayden Clark, Dylan Staton, Garrett Gilbert, Kelcee Foerster, Kallee Foerster, Marlena Loy, Aria Flynn, Asher Clark, Harrison Flynn and Ezra Clark.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Melvin L. Showalter; parents, John and Virgene Huffman; two youngest daughters, Nancy Anne Showalter and Cathy Jane McFarland; son-in-law, Gregory Thomas Neff and brother-in-law, Phillip Goldsberry.
Memorial services for Ginny will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2022 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio. Services will be broadcast via the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Facebook page at that time.
