Atty. William “Bill” N. Eachus, 77, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 in the Pleasant Valley Healthcare Facility, Point Pleasant. Born August 31, 1945 in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Ned and Neva Eachus.
A graduate of Gallia Academy High School in 1963, Bill was a member of the National Honor Society as well as playing football, basketball and running track. He set the school shot put record in 1962 and held that record for fifteen years. Due to his athletic abilities, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Gallia Academy High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bill earned a football scholarship from The Ohio State University and played offensive guard for the legendary Coach Woody Hayes, graduating in 1968. Then serving as a graduate assistant to Coach Hayes, Bill received a 1968 National Championship ring. While in good health, he rarely missed a home Ohio State Football game and remained an active booster.
A United States Army Veteran, Bill joined in 1969 and received an Honorary Discharge in 1971 at the rank of Second Lieutenant.
Following his service, Bill was admitted to the practice of law in 1974, graduating first in his class at Capital University Law School. He then returned to his home in Gallipolis, where he served as the Gallipolis City Solicitor from 1976 to 1983 while also serving as President of the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce from 1980 to 1982.
In the mid-1980’s, Bill was involved in real estate development, relocating to Columbus, Ohio. He founded his company, Diversified Investors, Inc., and developed several major projects which included Rickenbacker Airport and Riverside Methodist Hospital.
The early 1990’s saw Bill moving back to his hometown of Gallipolis where he opened a law practice which focused on criminal defense and domestic litigation. Bill defended multiple high-profile murder cases, involving the death penalty, throughout southeastern Ohio. Attorney Jeffrey L. Finley became Bill’s law partner in 1998, and Bill’s son, Michael, joined the practice in 2002.
Bill was very proud of his hometown and brought his talents and love back to his community. He had a passion for courtroom litigation, Ohio State Football and enjoyed happy hour with his many friends. He will truly be missed by his family, friends and community.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jamey (Mink) Eachus, Columbus, Ohio; son, Michael (Suzanne) and granddaughter, Lauren Eachus, Gallipolis; stepson, Eric Harrison and a host of friends and community members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Louis Davis.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 6:00-8:00 PM at The Colony, 418 2nd Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio where the family is hosting a time for memories and fellowship to honor Bill.
